Country Flair Update:

The snowmen, gnomes, and ornaments are currently available at Country Flair in downtown Montrose, CO.

The story of the cement snowmen: The snowmen (and women) were made from hypertufa cement blend last summer. They were allowed to cure for a couple of months. After full curing, they were pour painted in gorgeous blue and white hues. Once the paint cured, they were varnished.

The next steps give the their “personalities.” No two snowmen (and women) are ever alike. This year, I used a combination of regular buttons, specialty buttons, and antique buttons from my mom’s button box. The buttons become their eyes and “belly buttons.” They also get fun carrot noses. I finish the faces with painted features, like smiles and eyebrows. These are epoxied in place to assure they will not break off.

Ah, now their mischievous personalities are coming out! But they are cold – brrr. So, I add stocking hats and scarfs made from Christmas socks. Watch my Instagram Reel to see my full process:

We are getting there, but something is missing. Oh, they are near-sighted snowmen and need their glasses! I started making wire-rimmed glasses last year, and they were so cute that I sold out! This year, I used colored floral wire to match their attire.

Festive handmade gnomes for all seasons: Each gnome is cast with cement in my art studio. I use a silicone mold imported from Sweden. After curing, they are painted using stunning fluid art colors or painted in traditional acrylic colors. Once the base colors are applied, detailed features like facial features and beards are painted by hand. This gives each gnome a one-of-a-kind look. They are then varnished for durability. These gnomes can be used year-round, either indoors or outdoors. Also available through my Etsy Shop – Art from the Hartt.
